Background Information on Ebenezer Cobb Morley
Ebenezer Cobb Morley was born in Hull, United Kingdom in 1831. But he then relocated to London when he was in his 20's. While he was there he was involved with rowing along with a sport resembling soccer but with a variety of rules for the game based on the location. In 1858 he created the Barnes Football Club. In 1863, he became the captain of his team and decided to write a letter to Bell's Life newspaper. The letter was about a governing body for soccer. This later lead to the creation of the Football Association (FA), the governing body of soccer for England. He was also named the honorary secretary of the FA when it was established. Morley was later named the second president too.
